Frequently Asked Questions
About the Group
What is the 506 Investor Group?
The 506 Investor Group is a private community of accredited investors who share, discuss, and evaluate private investment opportunities together. Founded in 2015, the group brings investors together to pool knowledge, compare notes on sponsors and deals, and access terms that are difficult to obtain as an individual investor.
How does the group work?
Most of the activity happens on our private member forum, where members discuss thousands of deals across hundreds of sponsors and platforms. Members share due diligence, ask questions, and learn from one another's experience. The group also hosts frequent sponsor webinars, organizes local meetup groups around the country, and holds an annual conference. You need to be an approved member to access the forum.
Who runs the group?
The 506 Investor Group was founded and is led by Mark Robertson, along with a team of staff and volunteer members who serve as moderators, local area leaders, and sponsor liaisons.
Membership & Eligibility
Is membership really free?
Yes. There are no membership fees, annual dues, or pay-to-play charges. We only ask that you verify accredited investor status and agree to our community guidelines.
If membership is free, how is the group funded?
We made a deliberate decision not to charge a membership fee. Operating costs are covered in part by members who choose to support the group voluntarily through Patreon. Supporting the group is entirely optional—it is a donation, not a fee, and it has no effect on your access or standing. Members who become Patreon supporters receive a "$" badge on the forum as a thank-you.
Do I need to be an accredited investor?
Yes. The 506 Investor Group is limited to accredited investors under SEC regulations. We verify accreditation during the application process.
Can sponsors or their employees join?
No. The group is for investors only. Sponsors, placement agents, and their employees are not eligible for membership. This keeps the community's discussions independent and investor-focused.
Why do you ask for my phone number?
We use phone verification to protect the community, reduce fraud, and reach you quickly when needed for membership or compliance questions.
Joining
How do I join?
Submit an application and verify your accredited investor status. Once approved, you'll receive access to the member forum.
How quickly will I get access?
Most applications are reviewed within a few business days. You'll receive email updates as your status changes.
Investing Through the Group
Am I obligated to invest?
No. Membership does not require you to invest in any opportunity. You choose which deals—if any—are right for you.
What kinds of investments do members discuss?
Members discuss a wide range of private opportunities across many sponsors, funds, and platforms. The forum is where deals are surfaced, compared, and debated, so members see far more opportunities than they typically would on their own.
What is a sponsor liaison?
For sponsors with significant member interest, a member volunteers as a liaison—the group's point of contact with that sponsor. The liaison gathers member questions, relays sponsor updates, and maintains deal summary information. Because the liaison represents many members at once, the group can approach a sponsor like a single large investor, which is the main reason the 506 Investor Group can negotiate special terms for its members. Liaisons are unpaid volunteers and do not provide investment, tax, or legal advice—every member is responsible for their own due diligence and decisions.
Does the group vet or recommend deals?
The group is a community, not an advisor. Members share research and perspectives, and sponsors present through webinars, but the 506 Investor Group does not recommend investments or perform due diligence on your behalf. Each member reviews opportunities and makes their own decisions.
Events & Community
Does the group host events?
Yes. The group hosts frequent sponsor webinars, where sponsors present opportunities and answer member questions—recordings are archived for members. The group also holds an annual conference that brings members together in person.
Are there local meetups?
Yes. The group has roughly 30 local meetup groups across the country, organized by volunteer area leaders. Members can join the meetup groups in their area to connect with other investors in person.
